I was trying to get Kendall to smile at me so I could take her picture the other day, but she usually has WAAYY more important things to do; like run around, turn her head, or just say "no." Well the other day I asked her to give me a funny face (thinking that she would smile) and instead she busted out this face! Haha! Cracks me up to this day :)
That's the funny face. The sad face is some news I received last Tuesday that was unexpected. My Grandpa (mom's dad) had passed away in his home in Sun City, AZ. He was scheduled to come home on just Saturday back to GF, so I hadn't seen him since Thanksgiving. He passed away of natural causes, and I know he is up with Grandma and happy as can be. Of course things go through your head like wishing I had called him more or seen him more, but one could fill a life with the "coulda, woulda, shoulda's" in life. I miss him very much. Anyone that knew my Grandpa knew loved to talk, was very smart, and had a passion for the UND medical school. He always had a story and was very easy to talk to. When I think about never seeing him again or hearing his voice it's hard; but I know Grandma missed him in heaven and he had to join her. He will be missed by so many and impacted many lives.
My favorite recent memory of my Grandpa would be him with Kendall. See, to anyone that knows Kendall, knows she can be very scared of many men and take a looonngg time to warm up to them. Well, she was scared of my grandpa for quite some time. Well, Grandpa thought of this as a challenge and talked to the ladies at the Med School and one of them said the way to a child's heart and the way to get her on your lap is to read to her. Well, Kendall LOVES books and this couldn't be more true. Grandpa got out some books and sure enough, a few minutes later Kendall was on his lap and was no longer scared of him. It brings tears to my eyes to think that the baby growing in me will never get to meet my Grandpa. I hope our future child will carry at least a little bit of the Vennes gene and I will see some of my Grandpa in him.
